Shamrock Educational Academy is a private boarding school that specializes in working with teenage boys, ages 13-17, who are struggling with school and family issues. Originally founded in 1964, Shamrock has a long history of helping troubled teens, parents and families, in a year round program.
Our school is designed to meet the needs of teenage boys who have learning
disabilities and/or behavioral issues that are preventing them from finding
success in school. We offer a highly structured family living environment,
combined with a hands on, interactive curriculum, which provides our students
with the opportunity to learn responsible behavior, accountability, work
ethic and improved family communication skills.
We are unique because the owners, Tom and Cathy Carter,
live at Shamrock Educational Academy, with their children, and interact
with the students on a daily basis. Not only do the students at Shamrock
hear theories on family values, they work with the family to model new
behaviors, including respectful behavior, personal responsibility, participation
in family activities, learning a strong work ethic, and doing daily family
chores.
In addition to specialized schooling, Shamrock also offers individual, family and group counseling for our students. Tom Carter, a registered Washington State counselor, has over twenty years of experience working with troubled teens and their families, years of law enforcement experience and a Master's in Teaching. In addition, Shamrock offers drug and alcohol curriculum, provided by a certified Chemical Dependency Counselor, as well as a strong working relationship with a Child Psychiatrist and a family physician, which all create a team to help students learn tools and skills to regain success in school and at home.
Shamrock continually strives to provide a small family setting, that includes a commitment to a restricted enrollment of 20 students. This allows Shamrock to protect the integrity of the family setting and
one-on-one educational and counseling needs for our students.
